| Kang makes one of his key saves to keep QPR ahead, Gocool (9) and Fasano (20) chase and clean up |
Queen's Park Rangers faced an insidious challenge in bottom-feeders Alliance FC, in the hunt for their first league points.
In the opening minutes QPR produced multiple chances including a crossbar hit by Yanful. A few minutes later Roszuk struck the ball smartly from distance seeing the keeper off his line. 1-0 QPR.
As the first half wore on a short-handed Alliance FC gained some stragglers, their gameplay grew, and with a few minutes to halftime they equalized on a direct free kick. 1-1.
Immediately following the break, QPR's determination to remain in the running for top spot showed with Zaman picking up his own rebound after hitting the post and scoring with a diving header that would have made Mark Spitz proud. 2-1 QPR.
Alliance FC's determination was unmoved and poured on attacks which left for dead QPR shotstopper Kang, who was up to the task every time. A magnificent performance by the young goalkeeper.
With 15 minutes left Bovdis bought some insurance, tapping in his own rebound at the end of an excellent collective play. 3-1 QPR.
After the match, some players and their families visited QPR sponsor WBurger Bar for a "3rd half", enjoying some of their culinary specialties.
"We started the game with an attacking mentality and never stopped despite 3pm scorching temperatures in the mid-30's. Our resolve to be #1 in league play is unmoved. We have achieved this goal today, but the next two games will be key to solidify our position", QPR captain Fasano remarked after the game.
